Psychological AssessmentsOur psychologists can provide assessments to help identify areas of focus with your children. Assessments can also be used to apply for gifted programs, access help for learning disabilities, or to look for a potential diagnosis with ADD / ADHD. Most work benefits and extended health plans cover portions of the costs for psychological services Gifted Assessment Occurring in just 2% of the population this assessment looks at an individuals cognitive ability and achievement level. Giftedness is defined as "exceptional potential and /or performance across a wide range of abilities in one or more of the following areas: general intellectual ability, specific academic, creative thinking, social, musical, artistic and kinaesthetic". Learning disorders and giftedness can present together which often creates frustration and behavioral issues at school. This assessment will reveal if this is an issue your child faces. Psychoeducational Assessment This assessment provides a valuable tool for teachers and parents to use to enable the best possible outcome with a childs education. It can result in a diagnosis such as ADD/ADHD and intellectual disorder or a learning disorder. If a diagnosis is reached, the report can be provided to the school to be used in development of the IPP to minimize the barriers to learning success. This may be for children who appear to be struggling to keep up with the pace of learning, attain / sustain grade level expectations, experience memory difficulties, have trouble focusing, concentrating, or with general organization. ADHD / ADD This is a targeted assessment focusing on the diagnosis criteria for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or Attention Deficit Disorder. Typically used for people that notice attention, distraction and concentration issues are significantly impacting daily life. PDD / AISH People with intellectual disabilities applying to AISH or PDD are required to provide a recent psychological assessment as part of their application. This assessment is diagnostic and is focused on evaluation of intellectual capacity (IQ level) and adaptive skills functioning. The end result of the assessment is a formal report documenting a comprehensive intellectual and adaptive skill profile and applicable diagnostic information. |
