A different way of looking at your relationship

If you feel like you are stuck in a cycle of the same old fight, you are not alone. Most couples come to us when they feel they have hit a wall. Unlike traditional talk therapy, the Gottman Method is built on forty years of research into what actually makes relationships work.

It isn't about blaming one person or just venting about the past. Instead, we look at the specific habits that lead to distance and replace them with new ways of talking, listening, and connecting. It is practical, it is grounded in science, and it works.

"Research shows that most couples wait years before asking for help. You don't have to wait until things feel broken to start making them better."

The habits that get in the way

In our sessions, we help you spot the four most common patterns that cause relationships to struggle. We call these the Four Horsemen:

  • Criticism: Attacks on a person's character rather than a specific behavior.
  • Defensiveness: Meeting a concern with an excuse or a counter-complaint.
  • Contempt: Using sarcasm or looking down on each other, which is the biggest predictor of a breakup.
  • Stonewalling: Checking out of the conversation or giving the silent treatment.

What the process looks like

We start with a thorough assessment. This involves a joint meeting followed by individual sessions for both of you. We also use a detailed questionnaire that gives us an X-ray of your relationship.

Once we have the full picture, we dive into the work. You will spend most of your time in session talking to each other, while your therapist helps coach you through new ways of interacting. The goal is for you to leave with skills you can actually use at home.

Common Questions

What if one of us is hesitant to come in?

That is very common. We aim to create a space that feels safe and fair for both people. Our job isn't to take sides, but to support the relationship itself.

How many sessions will we need?

Every situation is unique. Some couples find clarity in a few months, while others stay for longer-term support. We usually suggest starting with weekly or bi-weekly sessions to build momentum.

Is this only for married couples?

Not at all. We work with couples at any stage. This includes people who are dating, living together, or married for decades.

Reconnect with your partner.
